First things first:
o Protect you working surface with newspaper for easy cleanup when cutting glass.
o You can never be too safe. Make sure to wear protective eye wear to protect your eyes from flying glass. Ouch!
o Make sure you wear your hot mitts when handling the Fuseworks Craft Kiln.
Now let’s begin:
1. Pattern 1: Snowman Ornament
o Follow the patterns attached to this project guide. Place them onto the designated sheet glass and trace around the pattern with a Sharpie marker. Use a glass cutter to cut out the pattern from the glass.
o Nip (4) 10mm pieces of black stringer and (2) 5mm pieces of black stringer. This is for the details on the scarf.
o Place all pieces together. You may use a small amount of fusing glue to keep pieces together.
o Decorate with white frit to imitate snow.
2. Pattern 2: Snow Globe Ornament
o Follow the patterns attached to this project guide. Place them onto the designated sheet glass and trace around the pattern with a Sharpie marker. Use a glass cutter to cut out the pattern from the glass.
o Place all pieces together. You may use a small amount of fusing glue to keep pieces together.
o Decorate with white frit to imitate snow. Apply white frit over the boarder where the top and bottom piece of the snow globe meet. This helps the two pieces fuse together.
3. Pattern 3: Winter Tree Ornament
o Follow the patterns attached to this project guide. Place them onto the designated sheet glass and trace around the pattern with a Sharpie marker. Use a glass cutter to cut out the pattern from the glass.
o Stack pieces on top of one another from largest to smallest. The largest triangle is on the bottom and finish with the smallest triangle at the top. Look at pattern for example. You may use fusing glue to keep pieces together.
o Decorate and add texture with green and white frit.
4. Time to Fuse.
o Place kiln paper onto base of kiln and then place ornaments on top. Close the lid and turn dial on the Fuseworks Craft Kiln to 12mins. DO NOT LEAVE KILN UNATTENDED AT THIS TIME.
o You may check the progress from time to time to make sure the project is fusing to your liking. Please make sure you are wearing your hot mitts and protective eye wear when doing this.
o If the ornaments look complete before time is up, simply turn the dial back to zero and listen for the ding.
o If the 12 minutes are up but your project does not look finished, add an additional 5 mins and check the progress.
o Once complete, leave the project in the kiln and let the kiln cool down for at least 2 hours. Lifting the lid or peeking under the lid during the cooling will result in your piece cracking. Glass remains hot for a long time and should be handled with great caution.
o Once cooled down use a sharpie marker to add detail to your ornaments like the face on the snowmen. You can also write a little message or the year on the base of the snow globe ornament. Apply a thin layer of clear nail polish over the sharpie for longevity.
o Glue bail to the back of the ornament and finish with a pretty red ribbon for hanging.
5. Now you are finished. You can decorate your tree or package nicely and give as gifts.
